What are the Unaccompanied Minor Boarding and Takeoff Rules?

Unaccompanied Minor Boarding Rules

• A parent or guardian must take the child to the departure gate and remain until flight takeoff.

• If the minor is traveling on a connecting flight, it will be assisted by a Delta or business partner employee.

• It is advisable that children be seated in the rear of the aircraft to be near a flight attendant for safety.

Unaccompanied Minor Pick-Up Rules 

• A valid ID must be presented by the adult waiting to pick up the child. If the pickup person at the destination is to be altered, the adult escort needs to call Delta at 800-325-8847 to provide the new information.

• When they arrive, if the pickup individual is not the named person at check-in, a Delta representative will call the initial accompanying adult to verify the identity of the pickup person at the destination.

• The arriving person at the destination point will most likely be issued a gate pass to pick up the unaccompanied child at the gate. In some locations, the pickup person will be directed to the local Delta Baggage Service Office for pickup.

• During flight departure, the accompanying adult must remain at the gate until the flight is off the ground.

Other Program Rules

• Traveling is not allowed for unaccompanied minors on the last connecting flight of the day, except in markets with only one flight per day.

• Traveling is not permitted on Red Eye flights. Red Eye flights are late-night flights, usually between 9 pm and 5 am. Exceptions below apply only if a qualifying connection flight is not available for:

• International flights
• Connecting to/from international flights
• Connecting to markets with only one flight per day
