Frontier Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Policy : What Parents Need to Know
Traveling with kids always comes with safety and comfort issues particularly when parents are considering allowing their children to travel solo. Unlike most major carriers that provide unaccompanied minor services, Frontier Airlines takes a different route. Since November 1, 2018, the carrier no longer accepts children younger than 15 years to fly solo without an adult. Here is a complete breakdown of the Frontier Airlines unaccompanied minor policy and other important rules for traveling with infants and children. If you want to know more about the minor or infant policy by Frontier Airlines then you can reach out to Frontier Airlines at +1-800-243-6297 or you can also call us

What Is the Frontier Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Policy?
Frontier Airlines made a clear change to its rules in 2018. The airline does not accept unaccompanied minors under 15 years old. Children below 15 years of age must travel with an adult Guardian on the same reservation ticket. Frontier does not include staff supervision, boarding help or arrival assistance for unaccompanied children. 15-17 year olds may travel alone but are treated as regular adult travelers.
With this update, parents cannot reserve solo flights for younger kids. An adult or older brother or sister must accompany them instead.
Can Infants Fly for Free on the Frontier?
Yes. Infants aged 7 days to 2 years old may travel for free as a lap child when sitting with an adult. Parents can be requested to present proof of age if required.
Things To Keep in Mind:
Infants may not sit in seats that have airbag seat belts (typically row 1).
One lap child per adult is permitted only. Should a parent be taking two babies, they need to buy a ticket for the second child and employ an approved car seat.
Two adults and two lap infants cannot occupy the same side of a row because of oxygen mask restrictions.
Car Seats and Strollers on Frontier Airlines
Parents can buy a seat for their child and bring a car seat that is FAA-approved. This is the safest form of traveling.
Regulations are:
Car seats are not to be installed in exit rows, the rows directly ahead or behind them or in the very front row.
Car seats should be installed in window seats so that there is no hindrance to aisle space.
Seat sizes vary : 17.4 inches on A319/A320 and 16.5 inches on A321.
Strollers can be brought up to the gate but must be screened thereafter.
Breastfeeding and Feeding Equipment
Frontier Airlines affirms a mother's right to breastfeed in-flight. Breast pumps are permitted as medical equipment and therefore do not qualify as carry-on baggage. Parents can carry feeding supplies but best to keep them compartmentalized in a mini carry-on.
Tips for Flying with Children on Frontier Airlines
Although unaccompanied children are not permitted, several families travel with kids on Frontier. A few easy measures can help make the flight more comfortable:
Take along a carry-on with diapers, wipes, bottles, snacks, books and quiet toys.
Load videos or games for children on tablets prior to boarding.
Avoid noisy toys to maintain peacefulness in the cabin.
Book stretch seating for additional room particularly when flying with toddlers.
Assist children in relieving ear pressure during takeoff and landing with gum, candy or bottles.
Bring a small trash bag to maintain cleanliness throughout the flight.
Frontier also sells snacks and beverages which are convenient in case supplies run out.
Why Did Frontier Airlines End Its Unaccompanied Minor Service?
Frontier discontinued solo minor service in order to make operations easy and consistent with its low cost model. Providing escort services and supervision demand extra resources which are not offered by the airline. For families, what this means is that children under age 15 have to fly with an adult and teenagers from age 15-17 should be ready to fly by themselves without additional help.
Final Thoughts
The Frontier Airlines unaccompanied minor policy is simple : kids under 15 do not fly by themselves. It does differ from other airlines but it means young travelers never have to fly alone. Families with infants and toddlers also appreciate Frontier's easy rules for lap babies, car seats, strollers and nursing. Need more information? Give us a call now at
